You could get a job at Coronation Street or Emmerdale thanks to new ITV scheme that helps people fro

IF you're seeking a career in TV, listen up.

ITV has launched a new recruitment scheme to create career opportunities for those from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Offering work on Coronation Street and Emmerdale, the First Break initiative - by organisation ScreenSkills - will see candidates bag short, paid placements on both soaps.

The scheme will begin with 100 candidates given a taster session - which will serve as an introduction into the television industry.

Following this, a further 40 candidates will attend a boot camp for skills - which will include how to handle equipment as well as on-set etiquette.

Finally, 10 candidates will be chosen for the paid placement, which includes five days of paid work on Coronation Street and Emmerdale.

"ITV has made a public commitment to improve society representation on screen, as well as increase diversity and inclusivity behind the scenes," said Trish Brady, head of human resources at ITV.

"Partnering with ScreenSkills on this important initiative is key to helping us get closer to ensuring our workforce represents our audience, it's a big goal but one we hope First Break will help us get even closer to fulfilling."

Kaye Elliott, of ScreenSkills, added: "We believe it will be a practical way of making TV more accessible to those without contacts, opening the industry up to people whose life experiences are not currently widely reflected in the television workforce."
