AN artisan butcher’s shop will become the first in Britain to go meat-free.
Hill & Szrok, which specialises in whole carcass butchery, will host a pop-up shop with products from The Vegetarian Butcher on Monday.
Customers visiting the store won't be able to buy their usual order. They will instead be able to pick up the brand’s meat-free Big Bangers or chicken substitute What the Cluck.
It comes as experts predict by the year 2040, most meat will no longer come from animals.
Serving the veggie offerings in Hackney, East London, will be former cattle farmer Jaap Korteweg, 57, who set up the brand nine years ago.
Mr Korteweg, of Bethnal Green, decided to become a vegetarian after he could no longer face taking animals to the slaughter.
But when he still had cravings for meat, he began working on substitutes for his former favourites.

He said: “Many people think they should eat less meat for a variety of reasons, but they feel like they simply can't live without it.
“They love the taste, juiciness and texture and feel that it’s the highlight of their meal.
“Even Michelin-star chefs can’t tell our chicken chunks from actual chicken.”
